Functional Nutrition

What Is The Functional Nutrition Approach?

As we know it the body consists of trillions and trillions of cells, all to create one organism. Within this organism (you) there are networks of systems lying just below the surface of the skin including the digestive system, reproductive system, nervous system, endocrine system, immune system, and the list goes on and on. The body is constantly working to keep these systems balanced so that you are able to stay alive. The main goal of this organism is not only to survive but to thrive!

To promote holistic health and nutrition, it's essential to understand that the human body requires the right type of fuel to thrive. There are two types of fuels for the human body, the right type of fuel, and the wrong type of fuel. The human body comes from the earth and is made of mostly plant matter. Based on these two fuel sources the body will either express itself through health and wellness or through sickness and disease. Functional Nutrition gets to the root cause of common conditions like diabetes, heart disease, chronic inflammation, autoimmune disorders, digestive issues, obesity, and so on.

As you can see from the title of my webpage I am 100% vegan, and live an exclusively Whole Food Plant-Based Lifestyle. However, I understand that not everyone wants to follow this lifestyle, which is why I offer customized holistic nutrition coaching that includes a vegan diet plan and diet modification tailored to your individual needs. We are all individuals with totally different gene expressions. The food we eat has a direct impact on our health, and by focusing on consuming real, whole foods and a diet rich in plants, we can help prevent and even reverse chronic diseases. The philosophy I teach at One Determined Vegan is simple; it’s to follow these four rules:

  • Eat real food-whole food

  • Not too much, eat until you are satisfied, but don’t overdo it!

  • Eat mostly plants

  • The food is the medicine, and the medicine is the food

Most of us eat what is called the Standard American Diet (SAD) which is loaded with calories and deficient in nutrients. In Functional Nutrition we take a holistic approach by understanding the body’s need for an adequate amount of nutrients to properly function. If you’re interested and really serious about regaining your health, then accept one of my challenges to discover what the human body is really capable of in a very short period of time.

"The old adage of eating an apple a day is great, but the day is longer than you think, so make time for your health and eat more plants!"
